New to AnkiMCP? There are three ways to use it. Pick the one that fits you — you can always mix and match later.

1. Connect an AI to your local Anki (free)

Keep Anki on your own computer and let an AI assistant create and review cards for you. It’s free and open source, and you can connect with either the add-on or the command-line tool.

The fastest way to start:

• Connect Claude to Anki
• Connect ChatGPT to Anki
• Connect Cursor, Cline & other coding tools

2. Anki Studio

Anki Studio is the workspace you and your AI share in your dashboard:

• The Knowledge Roadmap — a visual map of a subject wired to your real deck, showing what you’ve mastered and what’s next.
• The Sandbox — draft cards side by side with your AI and see them render live before anything touches your deck.
• The Media Library — images and audio stored once, reusable on any card your AI builds.

It comes with every account, and the free plan is enough to try all three.

3. Hosted Anki (Pro plan)

Want your Anki available even when your laptop is off? Hosted Anki runs a real Anki in the cloud on our servers, so your AI assistant can reach it any time — no computer left running at home. It’s part of the Pro plan.
